There are two main principles for TV signal routing for several consumers: parallel
diagram, or routing by “star” and sequential diagram.
The first case uses signal distribution connectors (also called dividers or splitters). The
input signal power is divided equally into 2, 3, 4, but each time the signal is split into
2,
the signal power at each output is also reduced by half (in fact, it is a bit more than
half — the reduced signal is usually 3,5–4.5 dB). This method of routing ensures a
high degree of power uniformity in the TV frequency band and a high degree of isola-
tion between the outputs, however it requires more cable. In the second case couplers
(
tappers) and TV outlets appear as connected cascading one by one. This method of
routing gives unequal signal distribution. It is easier to install and requires less cable.
However, this diagram can be used to route the signal to a lower number of consumers.
